Former RG sports part-timer publishes a light-hearted memoir

Don Wilt, a sports department part-timer from 1966-70, recently published light-hearted memoir “Working in Tall Buildings: A Wry Look Back at My Life and Career.”

The book chronicles Wilt’s upbringing in an Oregon sawmill town and how he used his experience at The Register-Guard and UO J-school credential to forge a career in corporate communications, a field most people – including himself – had never heard of at the time. He had work stints at Weyerhaeuser and the aerospace industry in California.

Sales of the book benefit the Malheur Enterprise summer intern journalism program. The Malheur newspaper is owned by his friend and former student Les Zaitz. Wilt’s first job after J-school was teaching journalism at a Salem high school and advising the high student paper. Les was the editor.

He lives in Camp Sherman.

The book is available at Amazon.
