Culture meets counterculture, February 1968

By 1968 the cultural upheaval that was spreading across the United States had reached the University of Oregon. Register-Guard editors, and presumably many readers, were intrigued by the so-called “hippie” movement and editor Tom Jaques sent reporter Jim Frake and photographer Paul Petersen to the campus area to interview a young man who had adopted a counterculture lifestyle. R-G reporters were required to report for work in suit-and-tie in those days. (Paul Petersen)
