Dan “Kiwi” Root
Hi all,
A little about myself since some of you probably last saw me, which was at Carl Davaz’s retirement party. Some of you might already know this, but just in case, here it goes. In 2018, my wife, Susan Polk, who grew up in Eugene, and myself, sold our home in NE Portland, and along with our daughter Leah, who was 11 at the time, emigrated to beautiful Wanaka, New Zealand. My wife has dual citizenship with Australia and that second passport allowed us easy emigration to New Zealand. We are now permanent residents and are staying here for good. If you ever come down here, let me know. We love visitors.
Since moving here, I have retired from my freelance commercial and editorial photography business. I am now a full-time trout bum when I am not doing chores around the house.
To all my coworkers, and my mentor Carl, I can’t thank you all enough for the way you all treated me and respected me. You all are total pros, and the best in the business. Those last two years as a photojournalist at the RG gave me the tools I needed to be a successful freelancer.
Not much else to say but thanks for the wonderful memories.
Cheers all!
— Dan (aka – Rooter the Shooter)
