Former RG reporter retires after working for city of Eugene
Former reporter and editor Ed Russo retired on May 1, ending his work career at the city of Eugene. Russo left The RG in 2018, five months after the sale to Gatehouse Media, and began working for the city in early 2019.
As a business liaison, he helped firms by providing guidance to get them through the pandemic. He also participated in a coordinated city effort to respond to the homeless crisis on Eugene streets, which had substantial impacts on businesses.
Russo joined The RG in 2000 as a business reporter. He then covered Eugene City Hall for 11 years, before becoming business editor in 2015. “I wanted to end my career as a journalist, but working for the city and using my knowledge of the community in a new way was the next best thing I could do,” he said.
The members of The Register-Guard Reunion Steering Committee are Ann Baker Mack, Donovan Mack, Paul Neville, Lloyd Paseman, Dean Rea, Mike Thoele and Sandy Thoele.
