Heaven’s Name
I have been working in Seattle since I left the RG (the best job I ever had) in September 1986, working for myself, that is. Commercial and editorial photography, portraits, fine art. About 15 years ago I became deeply immersed in music, with songwriting as a passion-fueled avocation. Songwriting is like poetry put to music and has, in my mind, a lot of overlap with photography but is a different pathway to the heart.
Last year I wrote a song called “What in Heaven’s Name For?” prompted by the massacre in Uvalde. About a month ago, with the help of other musicians and a sound engineer, we recorded it in an old school room in Seattle. I used the NPR Tiny Desk Contest deadline as the impetus to get this done. But in reality, I wanted to get it out to advocate for safer gun laws, a subject fraught with discord. Please see the video, below.
