It’s time to register for the Golden Era Reunion

The 2024 Register-Guard Golden Era Reunion will be held on June 29 in the lobby of the former newspaper building.

It’s time!

After more than a year of planning that had to be sandwiched around a three-year delay due to the COVID pandemic, we are pleased to announce that sign-ups for the Saturday, June 29, Register-Guard “Golden Era” Reunion are being accepted March 1 through June 1.

This historic, first-ever, one-time-only event will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the lobby of the former Register-Guard building at 3500 Chad Drive in northeast Eugene. The reunion registration form is available now.

Cost

The $50 per person registration fee includes light appetizers from Mac’s Custom Catering. There also will be a no-host cash bar. Thanks to the Baker family for providing the event space. Entry will be at the back of the building, where there is ample free parking. Dress will be “Eugene Casual.”

Program

Doors open at 1 p.m. with food service from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A brief welcoming ceremony will be held at 1:45 p.m. Memorabilia that will be on display will include historic front pages, news photos and selected bound volumes of newspapers from the 1960s to 2018.

Payment

Payment of the registration fee is required in advance and must be received no later than June 1. Do not send cash.

By mail:

Checks should be made out to “RG Reunion” and mailed to Emerald Empire Federal Credit Union, 850 Beltline Road, Springfield, OR 97477. Those who live in the Eugene-Springfield area can drop off their checks at the Springfield address. The credit union is in the small Gateway Marketplace shopping center northeast of the intersection of Gateway Street and Beltline Road.

By transfer:

Members of the Emerald Empire Federal Credit Union (formerly the Register-Guard Employees Federal Credit Union) can call 541-988-9059 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays, or visit the branch, and ask that the money be transferred from their account to “RG Reunion.”

By Zelle:

Digital payments can be sent to 541-743-6519 (Lloyd Paseman’s cell phone number) and they will be transferred to the RG Reunion account. Zelle is the only digital money transfer platform used by the credit union.

Overnight accommodations

More than a third of the former news employees we’ve located now live outside Oregon and will likely need a place to stay the weekend of the reunion.

Eugene’s usually busy summer lodging situation tightened up after it was announced late last fall that Eugene had once again been selected as the site for the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, to be held June 21-30 at the University of Oregon’s rebuilt Hayward Field. Up-to-date lodging information can be found at https://www.eugenecascadescoast.org/ and https://www.airbnb.com/eugene-or/stays

For people unable to locate lodging—or unable to afford the elevated prices—several former Register-Guard employees have offered overnight space in their homes for up to seven couples. Let us know if you’re in need of such help.

For those interested in also attending some of the track and field trials events, tickets went on sale Feb. 20 at https://www.gotracktownusa.com/tracktown24
